The Blue Sponge is known as an encrusting sponge. Encrusting sponges grow across hard surfaces such as rocks. One reason this species is so popular is that with the proper care it will grow quite well from the smallest piece. They require only low light making them great additions to low-light reefs. Blue Sponges feed on bacteria and detritus that it filters from the water, making good water flow and feeding with marine snow and bioplankton a MUST. Do not expose sponges to air as this can damage and kill the sponge.
